Kathleen Kelly, CSJ is the Chair of the Board of Ascension Health as well as a Development Consultant for St. Mary’s Academy in Inglewood, California. Sister Kathleen has extensive experience in Catholic higher education in her roles as Dean of Doheny Campus, Dean of the Associate in Arts Program and Graduate Division, and Vice President of Doheny Campus at Mount Saint Mary’s College in Los Angeles where she served from 1982-1999. Subsequent to her work at Mount Saint Mary’s, Sister Kathleen was the Assistant Provincial Superior for the Sisters of Saint Joseph and was the United Nations NGO liaison for the Sisters of Saint Joseph where she lectured on Human Trafficking. From 2005-2013 she was the Director of Development at St. Mary’s Academy and raised $24 million to build infrastructure for the school which has a special emphasis on working with economically poor students. She has been on the Board of several health organizations including the Carondelet Health Network, the Daniel Freeman Hospital, St. Joseph of Orange Health System, and Ascension Health where she is currently the Board Chair. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in History from Mount Saint Mary’s College and earned her Ph.D. at the University of Southern California where she explored Maryknoll Missionaries’ accommodation and adaptation in pre-World War II Manchuria.
